2004 Toyota Tundra P0442

I have an 04 Tundra with the 5.7 v8 motor.  Recently my check engine light came on.  The garage told me it was an air sensor possibly.   They suggested that I put a new gas cap on and then reset it.  It came on again after I changed the cap. This is the 3rd time.  What could be wrong? Or how do I fix it.  Thanks kpost

I forgot it has 188,890 original miles. Oil and transmission changed timely.

Clarification: Which specific code or codes are you getting when you hook up a scan tool?

I am not allowed in the garage they just said it was an air code and they told me to put a new cap on it. So I did and it still doesn't work. I can try to call the garage tomorrow and see if they can remember.

An "air code" could be a reference to an EVAP valve control solenoid problem but that's just a guess.  Take it to a major auto parts store and have it scanned for free then report back with the code(s).

Code # is the same po442

There is a small leak in the EVAP system.  Hoses, canister, connection between filler neck and gas tank, all need to be checked for leaks.

Mechanic is doing a smoke test on it tomorrow.   He said he thinks the leak or issue is or may be where you guys stated above .  Will let you know thanks for the help.  Kpost
