Hello all,
I am new to this forum but I have been watching Scotty's videos for a few months now and I needed an outsider's perspective on a truck that I might be interested in buying. I am not that knowledgeable when it comes to most vehicles, trying to learn as much as I can though. Anyway, this truck that I am thinking about buying is from a private seller, you can see from the title that it is a 2005 Ford f-150 pickup truck fx4 off-road model, 4D 6 1/2 ft. The problem with it though is he says that the engine has a misfire and that it tops out at 55 mph. The seller does not know what is causing the misfire. The truck has 215,000 miles on it but the exterior and interior of the truck are not too bad. He wants $2500 for the truck, what I would like an opinion on is whether or not this would be worth buying and fixing up or if I should pass on this one.
Well, since you don't know much about trucks, I'd pass if I were you. Because misfires are not going over. A certain speed can be a whole bunch of things including needing a brand new engine which is a small fortune. I would never buy a truck that has a problem unless I knew exactly what was wrong with it like it needed a water pump or it needed a wheel bearing and something like a misfire can have too many possible causes that I wouldn't want to buy one with one
