2005 ford ranger 4.0 sohc engine with problems. The transmission is extremely difficult to put into gear, and there is a very loud rattling sound every time the engine revs up, especially when the engine is warm. The truck has bogged down and wouldn’t go any faster than 25 mph many times.  Not sure if all three issues are related but don’t know what is wrong? Any ideas on the problem(s)? Thanks.

What is the mileage and have you scanned for codes? Is this an automatic or manual?

Only 107,000 miles, automatic, no codes

If you're giving it the full beans and you're only going 25mph, might also have a clogged catalytic converter.

Have a dry/wet compression test and go from there.
