Hello, Asking for advice on a used car I am considering buying. It's a 2005 Honda CRV AWD with 84,000 miles. It has had one owner who was a grandma and bought it new. She can no longer drive and her son is selling it for her. It recently had new tires put on and has had the brakes changed. It has an aftermarket entertainment center that allows your phone to hook up to it. Clean title. No visible rust. Always kept in a garage. The check engine light is on and the owner said that it's an EVAP code. The other issue is that the hood and fender is slightly dented from apparent tree branch falling on it. He is pricing it at $5200 and says that he is negotiable. Is this a steal or would I be overpaying for vehicle that's almost 20 years old. I can't get a mechanic to drive out there with me to look at it and he says he doesn't want to spend all day waiting for a mechanic. Is this a red flag? Seems like a pretty trustworthy guy. Lives in the middle of nowhere and has great reviews on Facebook marketplace from selling things other than cars. Let me know what you think! Thanks.
The check engine light is on
whatever it is, the owner decide it was better to get rid of the car.
Do you want to be in that position?
owner said that it's an EVAP code.
of course they did. They're trying to get rid of it.
doesn't want to spend all day waiting for a mechanic. Is this a red flag?

Run away.
