Is this an issue with the 05? Car has 54K miles and appears to well cared for in the past. I've had it for about 6 years and have had minor issues here and there. Just wondering if this was a design flaw....

Some of the 2005's did develop a tick. It was not nearly as bad as the ticks in the 5.0L V8's that came later. 2005 was the first year for the S197 body style and the tick was just one of those first year bugs. I can tell you that I've not heard of anything major coming of it. I wouldn't worry unless it starts to get worse for some reason.

Quite a few of them do end up taking but it runs good otherwise you can often drive it a long time
You might want to check you exhaust manifold to see if it's leaking a little.
