2005 Tacoma - P0456

Hi Scotty,

I have a 2005 Toyota Tacoma with the 2.7L engine and 5 speed transmission. It’s got 197k miles on it. I’ve been getting a check engine light for a very small evap leak, P0456. I’ve replaced the fuel cap twice with two different pen fuel caps and the code keeps coming back after clearing it with a scan tool. I used a homemade smoke tester (very low psi) and found smoke coming from around the fuel cap. I don’t see any coming from under the truck or fuel tank. What else should I do to fix it. I’m out of ideas.

Thanks,

p.s. I love your car repair videos.

When using a smoke machine, wasn't it just the fun you can see where the leak is exactly by looking where the smoke exits the system tested???

Seeing smoke exitiing but not where exactly is a mystery to me.

Did the smoke come out using your old cap as well as your new caps on the same spot?

Consider too, there might be more than one leak.

It's impossible, there is a minimal crack or a tiny deformation of the pipe you enter your fuel?
