I have a 2005 Toyota Tacoma Prerunner about 178k miles. I have a rear pinion seal leak and refill the rear diff, I have been hearing a noise when driving at normal speed. When stopped and making a turn I get a grinding somewhat sound. I need to replace the seal any other thoughts on the noise? I replaced the right front wheel bearing assembly in December the left front seems okay no play.
Hold up on, "Oh!, It's the belt". It can be anything along the belt's driveline: check @mountainmanjoe 's list of possibilities. Something else, other than the belt but within the belt's driveline can be making the noise. A mechanic's stethoscope will help you locate the source. Leaks don't squeal. So the whining sound when I accelerate is the belt? I do have a rear pinion seal leak.
if it grinds when stopped it's nothing to do with your driveline. Look at belt driven accessories.
@imperator Thanks like the serpentine belt?
yup. alternator, power steering pump, AC compressor, cooling fan , water pump .... all the stuff that moves when the vehicles does not

@jeremyh83 again, your pinion isn't moving when you're stopped.
