I have a 2005 Toyota Tacoma Prerunner about 178k miles. I have a rear pinion seal leak and refill the rear diff, I have been hearing a noise when driving at normal speed. When stopped and making a turn I get a grinding somewhat sound. I need to replace the seal any other thoughts on the noise? I replaced the right front wheel bearing assembly in December the left front seems okay no play.

So the whining sound when I accelerate is the belt? I do have a rear pinion seal leak.

Hold up on, "Oh!, It's the belt". It can be anything along the belt's driveline: check @mountainmanjoe 's list of possibilities. Something else, other than the belt but within the belt's driveline can be making the noise. A mechanic's stethoscope will help you locate the source. Leaks don't squeal.

if it grinds when stopped it's nothing to do with your driveline. Look at belt driven accessories.

@imperator Thanks like the serpentine belt?

yup. alternator, power steering pump, AC compressor, cooling fan , water pump .... all the stuff that moves when the vehicles does not

@jeremyh83 again, your pinion isn't moving when you're stopped.
