2005 Volkswagen Jetta 2.5 5 cylender automatic. 185 thousand miles. Very low and rough idle?
When it's idling it's very low and rough..almost on the verge of dieing. When I put it in drive or reverse while holding the break it jerks hard and barely stays running? Plus there seems to be a flooded smell sometimes? It's drives like a rocket down the road! It's a very snappy lil car! I scanned it with a snap on scanner my buddy had and it came back with 1. Cold air intake leak 2. Multiple cylinder misfires 3. No o2 censor reading. I thought it might be a bad PVC valve? Or dirty throttle body? Or something? I'm just not sure where to start? I've been driving it daily for work and lately I've noticed that it seems to be getting worse? I'm not a car guy, I always have had trucks but I kinda like this little car it's fun to drive, I just need to fix this car ASAP and being that i have multiple ideas on what the problem could be, I knew that I had to ask the master for help! I appreciate all your utube videos I've learned so much from you and I thank you so much! If you could help me out with my idling problem I'd appreciate any advice you might have for me. Thanks again Scotty for everything you do for all of us fans and for sharing all your knowledge from 50+ years experience as a mechanic. You are greatly appreciated by all who watch and learn.
Thanks again Michael Stewart {blackemo}
Need to see the actual codes to help. From the gas smell you mentioned, you may have a problem with the EVAP system.
Thanks Doc I'll keep that in mind...it almost smells like it's flooding out sounds like it also??
If the fuel injectors are malfunctioning, they can keep squirting gas into the cylinders after shut off. Still need to see some codes to begin the diagnosis.
