Scottie! Merry Christmas! Jorge here from Tucson,AZ. I watch all your videos so I love your channel. I know you hate BMW but if you had a chance yo buy one of these two cars for the same price and to keep a long time which one would you choose?
1. 2006 BMW Z4 3.0si with 29K miles
2. 2008 Mazda MX-5 Grand Touring with 12.5K miles
They are both in pristine conditions, always garage kept and well maintained with clean titles. Whats your pick and why???

That is what I figured; however, Scotty’s has never reviewed the 2006 Z4 or the 2008 Miata specifically. He has reviewed many other BMWs and Mazdas but not these specific models which is why I asked.
What engines and transmissions?

Which one would you like to have? How much money are you ready to invest in maintenance and repairs? BMWs are not cheap on a long run.
They both cost the same, Z4 has 29K miles, the Miata has 12.5K miles. The Z4 IMO has more power and feels better but I know the reliability of Mazda is better in the long run. I guess I was hoping for more information on typical problems Scotty has seen with Z4 vs Miatas.
The problem with BMW are plastic parts around engines where metal should be. According to link, 2006 is year to avoid

Both cars have relatively low mileage for their age. That means they have been sitting most the time.
