2006 Camry, 4 cyl, 140k miles. On startup yesterday, it wasn't revving at all, and threw a TPS code. After starting and stopping the engine a few times it revved fine and drove as normal. It drove fine this morning on the way into work.
I've owned this car for 3 years, it hasn't given me many problems, except for gas mileage, 19 - 20 MPG with a mix between city and highway driving.
Another possibly related issue is it tends to be very touchy on launch from a stop: you really have to feather the throttle otherwise it will lurch or spin tires on loose gravel.
With regard to the TPS, I've never cleaned the throttle body. Could it be as simple as cleaning the throttle body properly? I'm curious as to why the issue would seemingly resolve without any intervention so far?
Curious about thoughts on these two issues. I don't want to replace the throttle body without need to do so...

Chances are you need a new TPS.
Get some dedicated throttle body cleaner and clean it. Without a specific DTC number, diagnosis is going to be a crap shoot.
Unfortunately don't have code handy. My son checked it last night, and he said it was a TPS code
Thru googling, it looks like TPS on this car is integrated into throttle body, and isn't available separately?
