Hey guys!
Back in december 2021 I took my car to a new mechanic. I asked him to;
- change my tires from summer to winter
- Change the oil and the filter
- change a light bulb
- change both brake pads in the rear.
As far as I knew everything went smooth and I was a satisfied customer. Only a bit annoyed he refilled my engine coolant for about 40$, when he must have seen that I had a full bottle in the back with my tires. But whatever right, no big deal.
But my "check brakes" light came back on now and then(and still does). I didn't think much of it as the extreme whining noise beforehand had dissapeared after the job. Probably some technical issues I thought.
SO, the other day I decided to change my tires from winter to summer myself.
The brake pads in the rear is as close to being worn out completely as they can. As they have always been, they are worse than the front. There is no doubt about it. I am 100% certain he didn't change them. No misconception with the front or brake discs etc. nothing is changed. It is identical, if not worse, compared to december 21.
Only thing that baffles me is that the really loud whining have been gone. So I am asking: Is there anyway to remove this whining noise, when braking, produced by worn brake pads?
I am really confused and angry at the same time, since this is quite a serious part to get changed in time with safety measures in mind.
What is your take on this guys? Is it possible to remove the whining noise without changing the brake pads? Do you think he cheated on me or not?
And moreover, how should I approach this??
Quite a strange and serious situation at the same time.
Apologies for my english - danish guy enjoying the community.
Thank you!
Confront the "mechanic" with your paper work and the facts and at least give him the opportunity to correct the situation. Then, find a different mechanic.
True. I will give him a chance to explain himself, but I really can't see how to talk his way out of this one. Thanks for the answer.
Just to clarify...
You paid for new rear brake pads but he did not install them? Well then you should get your money back and stop going there. Should be easy to prove in front of him.
Is there anyway to remove this whining noise,
Yes. You break off the squealer tabs.
Yeah exactly. Paid for them, but he did not change them. And thank you, it will be a easier to go straight on him with the fact you stated.
