Hi scotty, I have a 2006 dodge dakota with a gertrag 238 6speed manual and 3.7 v6 around 52,000 miles. The speedometer froze and abs light came on going down the highway. The issue fixed itself after pulling over, and comes back intermittently.  I replaced the vss on top of the differential twice, once with a Dorman sensor and then a car quest one. The abs light is now off but speedometer and odometer do not work also the seat belt dinner does not sound I'm assuming because it can't tell the speed. I have a basic scanner and keep getting a p501 code,   generic abs problem.  I have been looking for a corroded connection or a possible bad computer or cluster.i have gone as far as removing the fusebox and computer connections looking for it. There is one more place i will check. There are two harness connectors behind the drivers side whellwell cover near drivers feet.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you, John k. Maryland

Hi, I forgot to mention it has rear wheel anti lock only and no wheel speed sensors. I am pretty sure the tranny does not have a vss, thanks all

Air gap too much,    rust

Hope this helps someone. Problem finally fixed. Rust developed underneath the vss on the diff causing the gap between the sensor and pulse ring to be too much. Easy fix, but hard to find. Thanks all.

Thanks for posting back with the fix. Well done!

Well yeah your best bet is to disconnect each end of sensors and wiring and then test them with meters to see if there's some kind of breakage or corrosion that requires too much power to operate them
