hi scotty, i have a 2006 mitsubishi eclipse gt. it has 53000 miles on it and recently i’ve been having transmission problems. the fluid is black and all i smell is burning and the car struggles sometimes to shift gears and i was wondering if its too late to get a fluid change

Your transmission is shot. There's not much to lose so you might as well do a drain and fill, maybe add some Lucas additive along with the new fluid. Save the old fluid in case the new stuff makes matters worse.

If you smell burning, it probably is. But you may as well change the fluid out if it is burnt as the damage is basically done.
