Should I buy this Civic or Corolla

Scotty, should I buy a 2008 manual honda civic EX Sedan 4D  for $4,500(113,000 miles) or a 2006 manual Corolla LE Sedan 4D for $3500(162,000 miles) assuming neither of them have any major issues. The civic is family owned. The corolla is from a dealer who originally priced the car at $4,150 but I can bring him down to $3500. The civic has paint damage because the previous owner didn't go for the recall on the bad paint. I am 5'10. I'd like to prioritize reliability and good visibility

I'd take the Civic.

I have the same gen civic, and they are a blast to drive. Handles well, a bit more power and most importantly it comes from a family member. Engine won't let you down and transmission is just as solid as it gets. Great deal for that price. Yes the paint is a problem for these, if you care about looks maybe do it yourself over getting a professional paint job, it will cost you a ton of money. If you don't care about the looks, don't bother or put some kind of protective layer over the bare metal if it's that bad so it doesn't rust. Also there is a decent amount of room in the back. It. Is. So. Much. Fun. I've also driven a 2005 corolla and it has nowhere near as good handling.

Civic because the Corolla manuals had problems and the Civic has lower miles as well.

Honda Civic between those two.

Go for the Civic.  You know where it has been, the mileage is low, and those Civics were bulletproof.  As with any car, have a mechanic check it out before buying.  Good luck!
