I just bought a 2006 matrix! But it's an XR and doesn't have cruise. Do I have to buy the really expensive Rostra kit or can I just buy the controller and do the wiring just in the steering wheel and plug the cruise and horn into the new cruise plug? It's an electronic controlled system. No physical throttle wire. It really depends on the wiring that's already in the car. Some of those are pre-wired and the kit from Toyota would just basically plug in. Anything else you're dealing with? Some really complex crap and I wouldn't use any aftermarket stuff myself
It must be a base model but I was told it was XR. Only base doesn't have factory cruise. Based on what I see on vibe and matrix forums I am 99% sure I can just add the stalk on the steering wheel. I ordered a used OEM off of Ebay. I'll let folks know if it works. It only works on the drive by wire matrix on 2005-6 models to just add this one cheap part. 2003-4 models you have to do a whole system install.This cheap addition should work for the whole second gen too. I'm doing a number of fixes on this car: front main seal, belt, strut mounts, sway bar links, PCV valve, chain tensioner, passenger airbag indicator light and airbag warning light. Got it dirt cheap and has full oil change and other records every 5k with 184K on it. It drives like a little race car. It seems to be whistling out the tail pipe only under load and between 3-4K rpms. Any ideas on the whistle?
I just added the controller on the steering wheel. Works perfectly. It took 40$ used Toyota part and 45 minutes. I think this would work on all matrix from 2005 on with electronic throttle control.
