Hello everyone, my friend is looking at a Pontiac g6 for $4000 dollars. It has a check engine light but he’s having a mechanic look at it. If the check engine light turns or to be nothing serious, would it be a safe buy? Would it be reliable? Thanks.
Do you have another car on mind? A check engine light can mean anything.
If it's not serious and repairable, I would check the power steering on that car before buying because that is the weak point on that car before the engine and transmission.

Well, he’s looked at a few things but he’s got his heart set on this one. If the check engine light is nothing serious and the power steering is fine, do you think it would be a reliable car for him? I’ve tried to convince him to buy a Lincoln Town Car… but he’s stubborn lol. I’m just hoping he won’t be buying a lemon
It depends on what engine was used in that vehicle and how it was treated. If there is documentation present/or if it's highway mileage, you may be ok for now. If the previous owner wrecked the heck out of it, I would keep looking. The Lincoln town car is a better choice.
My friend told me that it has a Pontiac 3500 v6. Is that a good motor?
It is a reasonable ok motor. It's no Buick 3800 but it's ok.
