Dear Scotty
I'm in Alberta Canada and a fan of you and your channel. I'm looking at a 2006 Porsche Cayenne that is for sale. Its being sold by a dealer company called JDM connection, who specialize in importing used Japanese vehicles to Canada. This Porsche is advertised as "Local Stock" which I'm assuming means it was actually a North American model they acquired. Its a Porsche Cayenne Turbo with the 4.5L Turbo V8 engine with 450hp@6000rpm, 460lb-ft@2250rpm. It has mileage of 60,300km (or almost 37,469 miles in American) as well as a 6-speed tiptronic shiftable automatic transmission and Multi-level air suspension (OEM Porsche). Like you Scotty I'm really a fan of Honda and Toyota. For a fancy/sports vehicle I was looking at Lexus. But because more people are seeing these vehicles as the best, like you and I, they are rare and/or too expensive in my market. However, I'm seriously considering this Porsche because they are only asking $16,900CAD ($13,114.06USD); which is cheap for any SUV in my market, let alone a Porsche! They are also saying new brake rotors and brake pads were installed at 56,000km(34,797mi). Engine oil, transmission fluid, transfer case fluid, coolant and differential fluid were all changed at 60,000km(37,282mi). From what I can see even though this vehicle is a Porsche, it seems to be recently upkept to a good condition and has low mileage. I am wondering if this could be a very good deal based on price, mileage and condition, even for the standard of a Porsche. Like you I also see anything recent of European make as mechanically crap and too expensive. But for the price, I'm tempted by the opportunity of easily getting a reputation brand vehicle. Do you think this vehicle could be in the best condition that this model can be in, or just average or even below? Do you think it could be worth buying as a good working and performing vehicle based on the information, or don't even consider it? Love to hear your thoughts, especially addressed in one of your videos! Thank you so much, take care!
Mr. T
P.S. Scotty. What would you say on the overall long term life and reliability of this specific vehicle? What to expect in the overall lifetime of the vehicle, costs and etc.? Could it work as a daily driver, or just a special driver to use once in awhile? Drivable year round, in Canadian winter, or just summer? Worth while, or should I stay away based on it being a Porsche alone?
which is cheap for any SUV in my market
It may be cheap to buy, but not cheap to own.
A cheap Porsche can get very expensive very quickly.
Hope you win the lottery to pay for the maintenance and parts.
1. Find a specialist Porsche (or exotic vehicle) independent mechanic in your area and see what they say.
2. If this is going to be your daily driver, don’t even bother.. As a weekend toy, maybe, only if that specialist mechanic says things are looking good.
Like the others have already said, prepare to spend more than purchase price for repairs on this vehicle..
