I drive a 2006 silverado 1500 with an automatic transmission and 5.3 vortec, recently my oil pressure has dropped, after warming up the engine idles at 22 psi and at 2k rpm i have around 40psi. I replaced my oil pickup tube o ring and haven't seen any difference. Engine has 129k miles on it. I'm a little lost as to what the problem is, Thanks
do you have the right PF48 filter on it?
I do, I'm really trying to think as to where i might be losing pressure, I know 129k is higher miles but I thought these 5.3's didn't get too bad till they got closer to 200k
The oil pick- up tube is inserted into the pump at an angle from the factory. This causes the o-ring not to seat properly. When replacing the o-ring, you must shim the supports for the pick up tube with washers to the windage tray. This will allow the tube to be inserted straight in and the o-ring to be flush. It's a common problem for Vortec 5.3's
understood, thanks
how do you know it's 22psi?
mechanical gauge tested it
