Hey Scotty,
Love your videos and all the car advice you give.... Thumbs up
I'm having issues with my 2006 matrix , i live in Saskatchewan, Canada where the cold temps get to -35 c
It seems like every morning when i start the car the idle shoots up to 2000rpms and stays there and sometimes fluctuates down to 1200rpm and back up.....Is it normal for these engines to idle in this manner when the temperatures get this cold or do i perhaps need to do a good cleaning of the intake/throttle body?
Thanks again from your neighbor up north

-35 {black} Damn that's cold! This is normal. When engine oil is that cold your car needs to work slightly harder as it starts to warm up and as it gets closer to operating temp your idle will start to come down and since its SO FREAKING cold where you live this could take 15min easily if not more. One thing you want to strive for in upcoming months and make sure you tell your friends and stuff this too but make sure to get the car running and wait at least 15-20 min till your idle around 5-7k unless it's an absolute emergency. At those super cold temps if you just get in and go you will for certain do damage to the motor. The one thing you want to try and avoid the most is huge temp changes like heat garages and stuff because that can cause the windows in the car to explode since their tempered glass.
