Hello, Scotty, i have the following car. My first USA car and i love it! Love how it looks and how it sounds. I am aware that this year has electrical issues, but when i searched for a Mustang up to $ 5K to import, that offer came to me. Anyway.... recently i changed valve cover gaskets. Successful, but few minutes after that, when the engine reached normal temperature( about 90 degrees Celsius) the coolant came out from the coolant reservoir cap, like a volcano. The fan did not start working, so i guess that caused the coolant to go out. I have changed the cap, with an aftermarket with the same pressure numbers on it. Also few months i've also changed thermostat with an aluminum body because it was leaking. Everything was fine until those gasket change. I've also checked relays for slow and fast fan, switched them with other relays to be sure it is not the problem and noting. Also recently my mechanic told me to check for CO2 inside the radiator system and nothing was found, it was ok, and while we were testing for CO2, the coolant cap was removed and i heard the fan to work for 2-3 seconds so i think the fan is ok. Since then fan did not start again. Now i have order an OEM coolant cap to change it. This is my last hope for a solution of the problem. What could be the problem?
PS: Great show, greetings from Bulgaria! 🙂
Hello again, i have finally found a solution for my problem. I bought an OEM coolant cap and my fan starts again for around 20 seconds to cool down the engine. This a lesson why you choose original parts most of the time. Case closed.
Either the fans are toast, the fan clutch is bad , engine coolant temp sensor if car has one or the fans just don't turn on till a higher temp. Like my Mercedes the thermostat opens at 85c but fans don't turn on till 95c to 96c.
Make sure you have power and ground to fan harness. If you don't you need to back trace the wires and check all connections, fuses and relays. You can disconnect the harness on the fan stroud and jump the fans to see if they turn on..
Since you said they did kick on for a few seconds, I'm thinking the clutch for the fan is shot.
Go back and check everything to make sure you didn't leave anything disconnect when doing gaskets. If they work before and not after usually it because something is left disconnected.
