- Hello I have a 2006 vw Jetta 2.5 just purchased not too long ago and I’m experiencing a misfire On cylinder 1 I changed the coils and plugs still misfiring and it’s making a tapping sound I know it’s the lifters gone bad but should I just replace the lifters or put another engine In??? The previous owner ran it low on oil and the ticking is from cylinder 1 plz help me thanks

Engine problems (in particular camshaft failure) is common in those cars, and running it low on oil doesn't help it any.

Do a wet vs. dry compression test on the engine, maybe a leakdown test as well. A 17-year-old Jetta is not worth putting in a new engine.
I plan on getting a used 1 I like the car and I’m mechanically incline to put the engine in the car myself

Make sure the used engine isn't worse than the one you have.
