2007 Chrysler Aspen 176k miles
While driving after about twenty miles of highway driving. If I hit traffic or stop lights. The tempature gauge goes all the way up and the light comes on. If I drive and allow the air to cool down the gauge drops back down. The car is running well. Coolant level is good. I see no leaks. If driving on highway temp stays normal. Any help would be appreciated.

Have you checked operation of the radiator fan(s)?
