Engine runs hot after 10 minutes

2007 Dodge Nitro

My vehicle starts to run hot after 10 miles of driving. I only use it for short trip in the neighborhood but I noticed the drive time is getting shorter. I received the vehicle as a gift from my child so I am attached to it. However I don’t want to keep pouring money into it either. I have had it look at several times but no one can tell me why it is getting hot or how to fix it. I’ve heard it the water pump, blend door, thermostat. None of that seems to be the case. One guy told me it was the catalyst converter, wasn’t sure.

What other symptoms do you have? How is the coolant? Is it fresh? Is it discolored?

How is the heater? Does it look like the water is flowing?

The cooling system consists of more than these three.

E.g. coolant (fluid), fan, hoses (filled with crud?).

What problems the car had as your child owned it (suppose it was not new as you got it)?

(hope your child did not get the advise 'get rid of it a.s.a.p.' here on the forum 😀 ).

How many miles it has?

You're not living in the Nevada desert?

Thorough flushing the cooling system with clean old water will not be a bad idea (you can see what comes out).
