P0401 code - EGR system leak detected.

I replaced EGR with brand new. And cleared the code, which temporarily fix the problem and the code is back and car is driving sluggish.

Car has about 280,000 km.

What could be causing the problem?

It is a hybrid car and recently I paid 2500 bucks to replace battery with refurbished.

The EGR was aftermarket and costed about 140 bucks.

Refurbished hybrid batteries are typically only good for a year or two.

The aftermarket EGR valve may be at least part of the problem. Critical engine components should be OEM since aftermarket knockoff parts frequently do not work properly.

Before replacing the EGR valve did you perform any diagnostics for the other possible causes of that code?
