I tried to loosen my serpentine belt by turning my breaker bar to the right, but my belt won't come off. Whats going on?

Thankyou, but I wouldn't be able to change the alternator because the belt won't come off.

well what is happening? Give more detail or photos.

  • Is your breaker bar on the tensioner?
  • Is the tensioner rotating?
  • Is tension coming off the belt?
  • Is the belt getting stuck on something?

Be kind. Throw us a bone.

Thankyou for the reply. The tensioner isn't moving and the brake pedal is stiff.

Have you watched the video?

the brake pedal is stiff.

I'm not sure what the brake pedal has to do with the topic? Is this an attempt to fix a brake problem?

The tensioner isn't moving

If the video that doc posted is correct, you don't have the swing style spring tensioner.

turning my breaker bar to the right,

If you're just trying to loosen a normal nut, then you're turning it the wrong way. it's lefty loosey, just like soda bottles, jam jars, and everything else with a right-hand-thread.

Oh ok thankyou, you're right. I don't have a spring style tensioner, but when I loosened the nut, the pulley still didn't come off like it did in the video above, and I don't want to yank it.

I don't have a spring style tensioner,

If that car doesn't have a spring belt tensioner there should be a manual adjuster, or one of the belt-driven accessories can be moved in its mount to adjust tension.

maybe it's just rusted in? I don't know. I can't see what you're doing.
