Hi Scotty,
I recently bought a 2007 Lexus RX350 AWD SUV with 100K miles on it. I purchased it in the afternoon, and it drove great but on cooler mornings I noticed the sound of piston slap which quiets down and is virtually not noticeable once the engine reaches operating temperature. I have changed the oil a few times already, and it doesn't use a drop, still full after 5,000 miles. Should I worry about the piston slap or just ignore it and see how long the engine lasts? Any advice is very much appreciated. I paid $10K for this car so I really want to get my money's worth.
Thank you,
Anthony
Are you sure it's piston slap you're hearing? If possible record a youtube video demonstrating the sound and post the link here.
When the car is in drive and I accelerate, I hear a knocking/ticking sound, which goes away once the engine reaches operating temperature. If I park the car and race the engine, I don't hear the sound, so I am almost certain it's piston slap, but I will take a video and post for you to hear.
Thank you
