Did you get the key fob wet at some point?
Is that your only key? You're always supposed to have a spare key that's in a known place in case you lose your primary one.
Read in your owner's manual about changing batteries in your key fob. If it needs to be reprogrammed after the battery dies, it will tell you there.
A good automotive locksmith that is licensed and bonded is a good alternative to the dealership. It will be cheaper, but not dirt cheap. Avoid dealerships at all costs, except for warranty work and recalls.
