Hey Scotty! i have been working on my wife's 2007 Torrent for days now. i have replaced the brake pedal position sensor, I have tried adjusting it, I have removed the fancy LED brake Bulbs and put regular ones in. Ever so often I have come inside to warm up and look at videos and people who have posted the same problem. Most all are G6 Owners, Cadillac, Equinox and Saturn owners. The torrent is 2wd and has the same set up , Motor and transmission as a older G6. I have not had any luck finding anything until today when I stumbled across this bulletin for GM dealers - GM Service Bulletin 16188-01 Brake Lights come on by themselves without brake pedal application OR Brake Lights go off when brake is applied.
I ran into a GM tech picking up parts at auto zone, he took a look and said he didn't know what was causing it and gave me his card, I called him today and he was not at work he was at home. He said to give him a ring Monday, he doesn't know about the bulletin yet. I am wondering what the difference in a Bulletin and a Recall is. I have no Idea how long my wife's been driving with this problem since I don't follow her around normally and she did not know either but she has been saying people are being rude honking at her for a really long time. Like over 6 months.
I looked at the fix for this and it seems beyond my capability ( I have never ever taken a car to a garage before and I was born in 68 ) I have always fixed every car i have ever had and everyone else's car that has ever brought one to me. If I don't get this fixed quick I am going to go insane, shes driving my TRUCK! have you had this problem before? If they will not do it free because of the bulletin do you know what a correct price would be for this job?
Thanks. I really appreciate your time.
PS, I have never got a cell phone, never use them. whats the best scanner that will cover from older ( 80's ) to now all in one on the cheap, say under 200.00 ? or is there even one?
The thing is, brake lights work when the car is turned off. You aren't complaining that your brake lights stay on (and are draining your battery) when you walk away from the car.
If I understand, this issue only happens with the ignition turned on.
So, it's probably not a short in the switch's wiring.
Maybe try this. See if the brake lights turn off when you press the brake pedal.
This could be a bad connection between the wiring harness and the BCM.
The solution is just popping the cover to the BCM on the passenger side of your center console, unplugging the connection, cleaning the connection and pins of any corrosion.
I'd disconnect the battery and wait 5 minutes before disconnecting the harness from the BCM.
Here are some videos which you may find helpful:
(I'm all for using a brush and compressed air to clean the connections. I'm not a fan of using isopropyl alcohol on the connections)

Well recalls are legal things they have to fix your free bulletins are problems that they are becoming aware of to try to help people to fix things but they don't fix them for free until they are recalled if they are recalled.I'd assume there's some kind of software glitch on those things or computer
I’d look at the brake switch.
