[Solved] Vibration after new motor mounts

2007 rav4 2.4 L

Had right motor mount and transmission mount replaced due to vibration issue when in reverse or AC turned on. Garage used after market mounts. Now it vibrates even more and the engine sounds loud. Rear view mirror now vibrates at 65 mph so much so that images are fuzzy. Would it have been better to use Toyota parts, or could there be another issues?

Had aftermarket right side motor and tranny mounts replaced with Toyota parts and Wow!, what a difference! Engine noise and vibration experienced with the aftermarket parts are gone! Worth the extra cost. My garage put on the Toyota parts and just charged me the difference in cost of the parts, and no labor charge.

No surprise there. When I installed aftermarket motor mounts in my own car they transmitted more vibration than the original worn-out, collapsed mounts.

Yes, though of course there may be other issues with a 17-year-old car.

Did they use rubber?  If they used polyurethane mounts they will have much higher noise and vibration (but will maybe last longer).

They used a rubber mount for the tranny, and the right side is hydraulic.

Engine runs fine, though it burns oil as this year does, but now sounds almost like a diesel engine. That new noise is concerning to me, but my mechanic tells me there is nothing wrong with the engine. Next step is to switch to Toyota mounts in place of the aftermarket.

thanks all for your comments!     Tom
