2008 Buick Lacrosse Burning Oil

I own a 2008 Buick Lacrosse CX with the 3.8L V6, and I recently had an oil change about 3K Miles ago and I had a "Low Oil" message pop up on my Information Dash. So I check the dipstick and its low, how low? 2qts low. I feel like 2Qts is alot of oil to be burned up just after 3K miles. Keep in my mind it only has 91,500 Miles on the car. Any ideas on if this is normal or not?

Last place I took it too was Midas and there was a little problem. They did everything said I was good to go, Im driving and all of a sudden I feel my steering start to go and Low Oil Pressure light came on and I pulled over and the filters seal Broke and leaked oil EVERYWHERE.

Stay away from places like that - lots of horror stories come out of those chain shops, as you experienced. You're luck the engine wasn't destroyed. It may have been damaged but that's difficult to prove on a 16-year-old car. You could do a compression test and use a borescope to look for damage to the cylinder walls but once again Midas would probably say it's due to the car's age. Friends had a Jiffy Lube destroy their engine and transmission years ago and they had to sue to shop to get satisfaction.

If everything checks out OK you might want to change the PCV valve and use the ATS Carbon Clean product Scotty has talked about in case your oil control rings are coked up with carbon. If you're not able to do your own maintenance stay away from the chains and find a good independent mechanic in your area, and monitor your oil usage.

Was it using oil before? Did you check the oil after the oil change? Whoever did the job may have shorted you, especially if you had it done at a quick lube joint or change shop.

Not as much, Maybe a 1qt to 1.5qt. Last place I took it too was Midas and there was a little problem. They did everything said I was good to go, Im driving and all of a sudden I feel my steering start to go and Low Oil Pressure light came on and I pulled over and the filters seal Broke and leaked oil EVERYWHERE. I called midas and they sent someone to me (I was down the road) and they changed the oil and filter right there and haven't had any issues since. Noticing the 2qt oil loss was after this incident at the 3K mile mark
