Scotty,
My Camry's a/c compressor leaks freon. Everything else on the car works great despite its 230,000 miles. The dealer wants $2k to replace the compressor but various websites estimate the car's value between $4k and $5k. I don't want to spend half the car's value replacing the compressor. Right now I pay a mechanic $200 every two years to replenish the freon. Do any of the stop leak type chemicals for a/c compressors in auto parts stores work, or should I just save the money for the next freon purchase?
Find an honest mechanic to change the AC compressor for your with way less money than what dealer asks for.
Any idea what an honest mechanic might charge for something like this? $2K sounds high but the dealer said they have to remove the dash to get to the compressor.
