My son is thinking of buying a device (wiring cable and components) to disable VCM. So he has six cylinders active all the time. Google hits state ECO kicking in causes oil consumption worn engine mounts uneven cylinder wear little savings in MPG. What do you guys advise? Pros cons of ECO on engine etc?

Thanks

The  right  way to disable  VCM ( variable cylinder management) is  to  buy  a  ktunner  and flash  the ecm  to factory map with the vcm disable option selected.. done that  to my accord  and it runs  super fast  and very smooth.. no  more vibrations  and engine  mounts  will last longer...

The device your son is talking about just tricks the ecm to think your engine is cooler so vcm wont kick in.. the concern about doing it with these ñlug in devices is that you wont know when your engine overheats creating catastrofic damage .. k

Appreciate the info - my son said there is another device called the VCM suppressor that does monitor engine temp - if it sees an overheat condition it shuts itself off.

Ktuner-  expensive device but I assume service shops must be out there that do it for a price.

Thanks,

If you go that way with tricking your ecu on your coolant temperature your engine will always run rich
