2008 Toyota Rav4 a/c problem

Hi Scotty

I would like to say a big thank you for the video that you are posting on Youtube.  I am learning from it.

Number of kilometers on the Rav4: 190 000 Km

My air conditioning that stopped working.

Concerning the air conditioning, one day it was working and the next it stopped.  There is no noise coming from the engine compartment (compressor or clutch).  The a/c light on the knob is on when I push on the knob.  I checked for a relay but I could not find any, the space in the engine fuse box (driver side) is empty.  O checked for burnt fuses, could find any.  My knowledge is very limited to none existent in the a/c field.  Any idea of what I should check before going to the Toyota dealer.  Very costly in the Ottawa/Gatineau area (Canada).

If I would have to refill the system, do you have a video covering the different steps how to DIY.

Many thanks for taking the time to read my email.

Again, many thanks for your very good videos.

Can you please elaborate on "stopped working". What exactly happens?

Thank you for taking the time to help me.

One day it was working fine (not the coldest a/c, but ok) and the next morning no cold air was coming out. There is no noise coming out of the compressor or the clutch. Belt is OK and it is turning the a/c pulley. Didn't found any burned fuse. When I press the a/c button, the a/c dash light goes on but the the a/c compressor will not kick in, also no variation in the car engine rpm. I looked for the a/c relay but couldn't find any in that 2008. The graphic printed inside the fuse box cover (driver side) indicates a relay but that space is empty, meaning no connector for a relay.

Before replacing the a/c compressor or going to the Toyota dealer, what should I test.

Many thanks

You hear noise not light comes on that means the AC clutch in the compressor is breaking down I never advise replacing just the clutch you would have to replace the compressor and clutch but those aftermarket ones made in China generally work perfectly fine

Hi Scotty,

English not being my first language, my question might have been written.

Has an answer (see above) to Montainmanjoe, there is no noise coming from the a/c compressor or clutch. Pulley is turning OK.

When I press the a/c button, the a/c dash light goes on but the the a/c compressor will not kick in, also no variation in the car engine rpm.

Before replacing the a/c compressor or going to the Toyota dealer, any suggestions in terms of testing.

Many thanks
