2008 Toyota Solara Coupe Multiple issues
Hello,
I recently purchased a 08 Solara with 43000 miles. The car was in a front accident (no airbags deployed), and was under a salvage title. It was repaired and now has a rebuilt title. I took the car to a mechanic after I bought it and was told that mechanically things were in tip top shape. No frame damage too. The issue is, there are an array of electrical issues that I am slightly overwhelmed by. Before I list the issues, I drove the car 2000 miles in the past week so that seems to be a good sign mechanically.
The issues with the car are as follows:
1) Speedometer and Odometer not working: I believe that's a bad speed sensor which I'm swapping out
2) Power windows and sunroof not working: I was told that the driver side switch being replaced would fix the windows but nothing about sunroof
3) Check engine, ABS, BRAKE, Tire pressure and passenger airbag light are on
4) Codes P0500, B1620, B1660
There are some other minor issues like a broken radio and missing bulbs and horns. However what I listed is what I am most concerned with. From what I have been reading/watching the issues can be interconnected. Someone suggested swapping out the ECU. Before I start shooting in the dark, I was hoping someone could help me better solve the problem.
Thank you!
so you ignored Scotty's advice to never buy salvage cars, always get a pre-purchase inspection, then the seller told you a crashed car was "tip top" and you took that at face value, and bought a salvage car anyway, and now you are having a myriad of problems. Imagine my shock.
Well someone is going to have to start tearing the car apart, running diagnostics, and doing electrical troubleshooting to find all the wiring faults. If that someone is not you, then it will probably end up costing you more than the car is worth.
Sorry, but this was a monumentally bad decision. I would flip the car and get something else.
I purchased a CARFAX report and verified that the cars salvage title was overexaggerated. Additionally, I had it inspected briefly before purchasing the car as well. FYI, the car was salvaged because the cost were deemed more than half the value of the car by the insurance. What I failed to mention is that the two main problems I listed were recent development. Meaning, the were not an issue when I bought the car. Is there any advice anyone has on how to repair these issues?
CARFAX
Carfax means nothing. There are no magical carfax fairies that know everything that happens to a car.
the cost were deemed more than half the value of the car
and that wasn't a huge red flag for you?
To start with, airbags were probably deployed which means they need to replaced and reset.
Yes, I understand that. The report was not the foundation of my decision. Regardless, I paid a couple of grand for a car with less than 50k miles. I just want to know how to address the 4 issues I listed. The airbags are there, but may need to reset.
