Hello,
I own a 2008 Toyota Tacoma and found out when taking the truck for inspection that the frame is cracked behind the gas tank. I do not off road with the vehicle and never have, in fact I've always babied the truck. I only haul music equipment and mulch. What are your thoughts on this? I feel that in order for a crack to happen there has to be a weakness somewhere in the frame. I have contacted Toyota directly as the dealership was fighting me on this... until I told them I called Toyota directly and gave them the reference number. The frame was treated back in 2016 for rust as it was a manufacture recall. I have an appointment for the dealer who argued with me to put it up on a lift and take pics and send them to Toyota for observation. I plan on fighting this until the end, as new Tacoma's are too expensive and my 4.0 V6 which has 138,XXX miles on it... is running strong.
Thanks,
frame is cracked behind the gas tank
Are you referring to crossmembers, or the frame rails? If it's a crossmember, they most likely won't do anything. I'm pretty sure there's several more crossmembers that are taking the extra load just fine. They build some redundancy when they build the frame. The key is not letting it spread. It's an older truck. Toyota most likely won't do a thing about it.
Although worth pursing to see what you can get, in the end it's pretty unlikely that Toyota is going to do anything for a 16-year-old vehicle.
