Hi Scotty, I watch your videos a lot and you seem really helpful. I could really use your advice.I have a 2008 Volvo V 50 T5 with a little over 200,000 miles on it. It recently threw a timing belt and The shop told me that the pistons valves, the whole kit and kaboodle was knocked out of whack and that the engine needs to be replaced. They said that there is an available used engine with 100,000 miles on it for installation $7700 or a new engine for 10 grand. I have really liked the car for the last 15-ish years.
Should I get the engine replaced? Should I get myself into this crazy new/used car market? I’m a little reluctant to jump into this high priced market but also challenged by investing another $7k into an old car that has no guarantees for the future. Thanks for your time and thoughts! -Joe
It’s lived a good life, but time to move on.
No way is it worth putting that kind of money into that vehicle.

This.
Unfortunately, it’s time to start looking for a new vehicle.
Find that for cheaper, $2k is what I’d expect for a USED engine to cost - 10 grand is what I’d cost for an actually new engine.
