In this video Scotty talks about the Subaru Forester from 2005. I was wondering on how good they are. This one has the 2.5 H4 and the 4 speed auto and he said that it is a decent set-up. The 2009-2013 generation is much better looking and more spacious but has the same powertrain. He said it is good but how reliable do you think it is?

If a mechanic says there is no head gasket issue, transmission issue, or oil burning, can it be a good buy? They are 2009-2013 models non-turbo and go for nothing here in California like 5 6 grand where as I see 2009-2012 Rav4's go for 13 15 17k here in California people pay A TON for Toyota's and Honda's.

I already know about the CR-V and Rav4 but I like this better as it rides better and is higher off the ground. The 06-08 Rav4 has oil burning as well, and they still go for like 8 10 grand. I can also consider the manuel transmission but the auto is a Nissan but its from the 2001 and before where they were decent like in the old Altima's and Sentra's which were bulletproof.

The reason people pay more for used Toyota compared to Subaru is obvious. So, you can risk and get a Subaru, if you really like the car and your mechanic checks it out for you, although you should not strain the engine since the automatic transmission is a weak point of these cars.

There are a ton of these with manuel transmissions typically at a lower cost do you think a manuel would be a lot better?

Definitely. The manual ones last longer and fun to drive too. Although I would not push it hard since they have boxer engines.

I see. Thank You! I was considering normal city driving as a first car I wouldn't risk the engine and go drag racing in a Forester.
