Hello everyone, my subaru impreza is making some knocking sounds comming from the engine. I did check the spark plugs and they were perfectly fine. The belts have also been checked and all of them are tight so the engine itself remains. The knock does get faster once the RPMs start climbing. The car also shakes slightly when in idle and the knock is there. Please help, it is urgent for I am having a 500 mile trip to my other house tomorrow. The engine type is the EL15.
If it's a rapid, heavy knocking that engine is not going to make a 500 mile trip. Is it grievously low on oil? If possible, please make a video or audio recording demonstrating the noise and upload to youtube or a file sharing site.

As a rule of thumb, When you hear any kind of noise from the engine, turn it off and check the oil level immediately.
When I hear knocking from a Subaru, knowing that it's known for loosing oil while also not tolerating low oil levels,
(and that no mater how much you warn owners to keep the oil between the low and high mark religiously, they don't)
- It makes me think your oil is low and that your bearings are probably spun.
How much oil is on the dipstick? was it driven aggressively?

Sounds like rod knock to me, here's what rod knock sounds when you run an engine without enough oil.

It's not supposed to make that noise. Something is definitely wrong. You should respect your Father but not believe everything he tells you. He probably means well.

Hi Dan, I have just now checked the engine oil level and it was on the upper dot. I do assume it is a rod knock as well, but my father tells me that the car is okay and I should not worry. But my gut tells me that there is something up with the engine.
