Multiple transmission diagnostic faults

2009 vw routine 3.8l automatic with I think 78,000 Miles. Has trouble codes

P0792 intermediate speed Shaft sensor

P0734 gear 4 incorrect ratio

P0733 gear 3 incorrect ratio

P0736 reverse incorrect ratio

So far only the reverse is acting up, seems to be slipping. What causes these codes?

It's called a Routan

You can follow the troubleshooting steps for P0792. If you're lucky it's just a sensor (unlikely)

If that doesn't work (probably) then there is serious internal problem in the transmission and it needs to be replaced.

Thanks will look into it

The VW Routan is a rebadged Chrysler minivan. They are known for weak transmissions.

Oh ok did not know this. Thanks

I didn't know either. A match made in hell.

Me either. Interesting.

Well try to convince owner to sell and get another car

When did you change out the transmission fluid and filter last?

It's not my car. I'm trying to help a friend. Judging by the color of the transmission fluid it hasn't changed in quite a while.its brownish

Transmission speed sensor, PCM, or transmission is going. It's possible the solenoids are bad or the valve body itself.. If i remember correctly I think these transmission and valve body's aren't good at all. They fail at a very high rate. It is possible the transmission oil pressure switch can be failing and throwing phantom codes. Very very unlikely but still a slim possibility.

Thanks. They want to try sensors so I will let you know how that goes.
