Hey so I just bought a 2010 chevy malibu lt 3.6 v6, it has 119,000 miles. The car seemed to shift great during the test drive and for the first week of having it. I bought it off a private owner who said he didnt drive it too often. Now it seems between 3-4 and 5-6 gear its almost sluggish and almost cant even feel it hitting the gears like before, it hasnt slipped yet but could this be a fluid problem? I tried getting the history of the car, from what I have found there is no record of a transmission fluid change on the car. Should I try now? The transmission doesnt have a dipstick so I havent checked the fluid yet, i just assume change it if I have to crawl underneath it to check it anyway. What is your advice?
Well, I realize those are kind of weak transmissions. You could gamble by changing the filter and fluid. Pat, then sometimes they start to slip. If it's never been changed in its history. Since you recently got it, I would say driving around for a thousand miles and see what happens if he didn't drive it much. Maybe it'll clear out if it's clogged somewhat
@scottykilmer Thank you! I will do that, im not much of a gambler so I will drive it like you said. I paid $3,000 for it, I bought it because it had very little rust for living its life here in upstate Ny, if it gets me a year I would be happy.
