2010 Ford F150 4.6L 6R140 Transmission 104000miles
Ive heard mixed reviews on this vehicle. Is it worth buying, or will it be nothing but a problem? Its in excellent cosmetic condition, 1 previous owner, documented servicing over its life.
Thanks for your advice
According to kbb the 2010 Ford F150 has a 4.5 star rating and 88% of owners recommend it. There is a YouTube video at https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=2CxMxan_7NM&pp=ygUOMjAxMCBmb3JklGYxNTA%3D where Scotty reviews this truck.
@fordfan also I would add: always make sure to have a good mechanic inspect it BEFORE purchase.
@fishingandcarsenthusiast That too.😋
6R140 Transmission
Not from the factory. According to the service manual, the 3-valve V8's came with a 6R80E 6-speed automatic transmission. The 2-valve came with a 4-speed.
#2 problem on those trucks is poor shifting: https://www.carcomplaints.com/Ford/F-150/2010/

The 3-valve modular engine (VIN '8') is quite reliable, known for going 300k miles or more in Taxis.
The 2-valve (VIN 'W') not so much due to plastic engine parts.
There were also issues with spark plugs. I've heard stories of spark plugs getting shot out of the engine right through the hood.
A short thread depth in the aluminum cylinder heads is the root of the second common problem: stripping of cylinder head spark plug threads. Be careful while changing spark plugs on any Ford 4.6 V8s, as it is so easy to over-torque them and strip threads. Ford recommends a threaded insert as the method to repair stripped thread and even provides a tool kit specifically for that.
Whatever you do, have it inspected by a mechanic. Look over the records to make sure the transmission was serviced regularly.
