2010 Ford Fusion transmission issues

Hey scotty I have a 2010 Ford fusion sel v6 3.0 with 72000 miles on it. I bought the car in january with 58000 miles on it i had a little bit of suspension work new springs etc. and new rear breaks put on it other than that it’s been bullet proof. About a month or 2 after i bought the car it started shifting weird into first and second gear. changed the ATF and the first gear problem went away but it still shifts hard into second gear and shakes the car when I accelerate hard but it’s only second gear. first gear and 3-6 all shift smooth as butter. It also sometimes hesitates to shift into second gear but really only does this when the car is cold or it’s been sitting for a few days. I really love this car and recommend it to anyone that asks me about it and honestly will prob buy a 2017-19 fusion sport when the time comes. I feel like if I need a new transmission or a rebuild i’ll just live with the problem as it’s been well over 10000 miles since it started happening and I do mostly highway driving. what’s your take?

Does it slip in 2nd gear? If it does it’s probably too far gone to fix it cheaply. I’d lock it in 2nd and see if the revs change together with the speed or if there’s slippage.

If it doesn’t slip, this might be just a solenoids / valve body / software issue. But I wouldn’t spend too much money on that as it’s an 11yo Ford.

usuauly they have issues with the 2 - 3 shift and that usually requires only ATF change and computer calibration.

no it’s not slipping just shifting into second gear hard. under light acceleration it doesn’t shift as hard either.

Have it scanned by a full-system scanner (not an OBD2 one) the car may know what’s wrong with it (it may also not know)

The 2nd gear is going out. Not worth  fixing, just live with it.

It’s an automatic… it usually doesn’t have a dedicated 2nd gear.
