My wife's 2010 Jeep Patriot 120,000 MI has a weird clicking sound when pressing the brake however the clicking does not activate if in gear. I assume that it is the switch but why is it making noise only when in park or when the car is off?

That's probably the switch or the little stepper motor that puts the car stepper motor open so that you can take it out of park and put it in gear I wouldn't worry about it as long as it works
