Scotty, I have a 2013 Ford F150, 5.0L, 99k miles.
I am aware of the TSB regarding the speed sensor that fails in the molded lead of the 6R80 transmission. Do you have any statistics with regard to this particular issue? Should I roll the dice and hope my transmission doesn't break? Ford quoted me a price of $900.00 to proactively replace the lead frame, voluntarily, before it fails. The issue I have with replacing the lead frame is that my transmission has 99k miles. Is the 6R80 tranny dependable enough to justify the cost of only replacing the lead frame?
If you do other parts at same time ($), basically a rebuild with QUALITY parts and good/experience trans mech, you should be good for another 99k+. At 99k, I wouldn't just replace that 1 part.
@hillbilly
Can you please be more specific, what other parts should I replace?
Most likely it is the older style valve body since it has the older lead frame. Ford made an upgrade valve body for that trans about same time as the redesigned lead frame was made (insure if you replace use the newest version lead frame) so I would replace that and ALL solenoids. They may be fine but it's a great time to do it and theory says new (good) solenoids will last longer than old good parts (if of same quality).
Additionally, you may find a good indy trans mech that knows all this and will put in all needed parts.... possibly at $900...
Thank you!
