In 2013 I bought a 2010 Mercury Milan Premiere AWD with a V-6 engine. After having it for a few months, I took a road trip with if from Ohio to New Orleans. Just north of Birmingham, AL., the wrench light came on, and the car starting to lose power. I limped into Birmingham to look for a dealership. I happened to stop and turned off the car. When I turned the car back on, the wrench light had gone out, but the check engine light was on. Upon driving the car, I discovered that the loss of power was gone but the engine was driving a little rough. I decided to continue with my trip, and over a period of time the check engine light went off and the car drove fine. When I got to New Orleans, I took it to the dealership, and was told that the throttle body was bad, and had it replaced. I had it replaced, but the following day the car did it again. I returned to the dealership and was told that the throttle body they put in must had been bad, and replaced it with yet a new one. The car drove fine the remainder of the time I was down there, about two weeks. However, on my way out of New Orleans, it happened again. Once back in Ohio I again took it to the dealership. They put it on a computer and could not find anything wrong, and was told to bring the car in when the problem arose. The car would continue have this problem at various speeds, various distance, and one time happened 5 times during a short drive of less than 20 miles. Additionally, the loss of power would vary from slight to complete loss of power. Each time, the wrench light would go out if I turned the car off and back on again. Additionally, each time the check engine light would come on as originally stated. The only difference was the amount of time before the check engine light would go off. Sometimes it would go off within a short time, while other times it might stay on as long as a week. Eventually, I was able take the car into the dealership while the wrench light was on, but unfortunately someone there at the dealership turned the car off. I eventually sold the car but never learned why the car was doing what it was doing. The car had around 62,000 miles on it when it first started happening. Any idea what was wrong with the car?

Unless you knew the code for the CEL and have done some diagnosis, it is almost impossible to tell. The good thing is that you got rid of the car.
