I bought this car when it had 16k miles on it. Now it has 72k miles on it. In 8 years, ive had no problem except when i go up a hill the rpm goes up and to get the car to shift, i let up on the gas a little, and the car shifts fine. Is that normal or is the transmission starting to go?
That is normal cvt operation that your describing when going up hill it will raise rpm to compensate for the added load and will maintain it until you let off and it knows it’s safe to come back down. If the rpm stayed low going up hill you would have now power and lose speed
Engines do lose some power as they age and have to rev higher.
If you have the automatic CVT, then make sure you change the fluid. Otherwise, the belt will lose its grip and begin slipping.
Transmission failure is often quite sudden with those cars. The belt disintegrates and it won't move.
