My car shifts best when I let up on the gas - is this normal?

This is normal since the car does not technically shift when you let off it tells the car your done accelerating and Rpms drop to save fuel economy
That’s how they “shift” from new it’s for power when needed and fuel economy when not

That all depends now as many transmissions age if you normally just keep your foot on the gas and they shift normally but now they don't shift until you take your foot off the gas it's a sign that the transmission is just worn but many can drive that way for years
