Recently purchased a 2010 Toyota Camry Base model 2.5L from a used car lot for my son. It is automatic with 147,000 miles.
I had it scanned before we bought it. The only code that came up was Oxygen sensor. When I took it for a test drive I noticed that the vehicle will veer towards the right slightly when you are not holding the steering wheel firmly. I did not think it was a big deal and probably needed an alignment so we bought the car, because MY son was desperate. I took it to an alignment shop that had that fancy computer laser alignment machine. I saw on the computer screen that it needed a few adjustments here and there. The technician worked on the car and I left the shop. Drove around the block and it was still doing the same thing, but not as bad as before. I drive straight down the road going about 25-30 mph and let go of the wheel, the car will start veering to the right. By the way, at times it seems like the steering wheel will shake a little. Do a little jig lol
I went back to the shop, they were busy and had a lot of customers, I told the tech what's wrong and he claims it could be something called "radial pull". He told me to have someone switch the right side tires over to the left side.
Well, I went to a tire shop and the man (I know him well) there told me that there is no such thing as "radial pull". He jacked up the front end, checked the tires, said they look great, tire pressures were all okay, was wiggling the right front tire and checking the steering wheel then proceeds to tell me that it is the alignment. Take it back to the alignment shop. Went back and they did it over again with their fancy laser machine. The car still veers to the right if you are not hanging onto the steering wheel at all times. It veers slowly, it's not a drastic jerking to the right, but I know since I have been driving for 30 years that the car should not do that at the second you let go of the wheel.
What the heck can it be? We don't have much money and I am just curious if you guys can tell me if the alignment shop is screwing us over?
I was told that those laser computer alignment machines are garbage and to find someone who does alignments old school. I just don't know who to believe anymore lol!!!
Thanks for your time. Have a GREAT day!!
Jane
Sounds like the alignment shop or idiots find a different shop start there I see that all the time especially if the younger guys try to find an older front end guy who knows the stuff and doesn't depend on fancy computer lasers but does it by hand with equipment that actually works

I appreciate your input!
