I have a 2010 Toyota Rav4 2.5 AWD with the crappy CVT transmission and have been having problems with. Im getting a quick grind noise at about 40mph. Its coming from the front. Also getting a hobble/bounce when driving any speed. Almost feels like a bad tire. The grind or from what I’ve heard a shudder noise don’t sound like normal torque converter makes, won’t do all the time, but I can almost make it do it when gassing up to 40mph. I had other problems and noises that I fixed such as front hub and bearings along with new rotors and brake pads. I also have replaced plugs, pcv, oil, air filter within the past month and most recently tires. After doing the hub and bearings the noise and hobble was still there. That day I took it Toyota dealership and they said trans axle is bad. Cost $5180. I have had 4 people in the past month to drive and drive with me about this and most were stumped and said sounds like a heat shield but it’s not that. Week ago had taken it to a 2nd transmission shop to change transfer case differential and tranny fluid. The trans fluid is bad and needs changed. Im not letting them change filter or drop and clean pan, I dont want to shock the system. If you have any suggestions I appreciate it. Thanks and love the videos, ive learned how to do a lot and kearned alot!
for my experience it probably is the transaxle but to find that for sure watch my video finding the source of car noises Scotty. That remote sound machine will find the source of any noise
Can the transaxle make a bumpy ride the feeling of a cupped or broken belt in tire?
no
Ok...so I know the noise is from the front, but when driving it has a vibration that feels like a bad tire. You said sounds like transaxle because of the scrapping grind noise at 40mph and it started since I’ve had the problem. Other sources online says transaxle can cause vibration feeling...im so lost.
