I have a 2011 Toyota Avalon Limited which was bought used 6 years ago and only had 25,000+ miles on it. It now has a little over 99,000 miles and still operates like a champ. Recently ran into an issue with the front passenger door lock.
Due to the programming of the key fob, any door that I approach with smart key in hand should open when I touch the sensor on the back of the door handle. All of the other doors will unlock but the front passenger door will not. If I double click the unlock button on the fob all doors will unlock but, I still can't open the FR door with outside handle.
I can lock and unlock the FR door with the switch on that door and I can lock and unlock it with the master switch on the drivers side but it can only be opened with the inside door handle.
I am stumped as to what the problem could be
Appreciate the response Mod_Man and just to be clear on this subject. What you stated makes sense just want to verify before buying a new door handle. Even though I can unlock it with the fob, the master switch and the lock/unlock switch on the FR door but, can only open the door with the "inside door handle" the frequency receiver in the handle could be the problem.
Most likely there is an issue with the frequency receiver inside the door handle itself. The only way to fix it would be to replace the handle with a new one and then reprogram the key fob again.
I have seen this happen a few times.
